      Nathan Angelo

In the ever-changing landscape of modern pop, Nathan Angelo shines as a refreshing alternative, embracing the classic elements of popular music and celebrating the backbeat of American tradition. As the revival of music in the 60’s and 70’s brought together the heritage of the Great American songbook, the flair of jazz and heartache of the Delta blues, Angelo integrates these forms into his own music with great ease and delight. Like many Motown and Stax artists, Angelo’s musical craft was cultivated at a young age in the pews and platform of the church. It was there that he first witnessed the power music had to transport people beyond their present experiences.

As a seasoned performer, Angelo has captivated audiences across the country with his tight band and high-spirited live show. Fans of Nathan Angelo recently rallied to fund his latest project on Kickstarter with totals reaching 10K over the projected goal. The new album began with a creative vision rooted in Angelo’s love of classic soul and R&B. His dream was to create an original record that brought listeners back to the infectious, danceable sounds of the era.

Out of the Blue (Sept. 2013) channels the vibe with success, featuring fresh, amusing songs with sounds reminiscent of Marvin Gaye, Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder and Otis Redding. In order to capture the energy of the live show, Angelo and his band spent two days in the world-famous Quad Studios in Nashville recording analog onto 2″ tape. The project incorporates the signature “call and response” singing style common to Motown as well as the distinct orchestration: horn sections, strings, guitars, snaps, claps, tambourine and the unforgettable keys. To complete the aesthetic, Angelo’s breathtaking falsetto and honest, quirky and charming songwriting reach surprising new heights, satisfying listeners with an all-around experience of nostalgia, energy and emotion. The timeless and unique artistic direction of this record coupled with its phenomenal execution and production allow Out of the Blue to emerge as Angelo’s most exquisite work to date.

When White Male Actors sent a copy of their debut single ’31 Years’ to the R.E.M. offices in Athens Georgia on record store day April 2013 little did they know that the response they would get from one of their musical idols would be so overwhelming. Written as a tribute to the band they had loved in the wake of their breakup, drummer Bill Berry replied that it was “by far the greatest tribute to the band that he had heard” and manager Bertis Downs added that it was “simply wonderful, oh my”. Not bad for a band who at this stage had not even done a gig! Formed in late 2012 by Mark Donnelly (Drums) with David Mc Gaughey (Vocals and guitars) and Pete Devine (Guitars) the 3 piece outfit hailing from Strabane in the North West of Ireland quickly made a name for themselves by the quality of the material that they were posting online. Sonically inspired by the likes of R.E.M., Manic Street Preachers and U2 but with a unique twist White Male Actors write anthems – not just merely songs! Having signed a deal with up and coming Irish independent label ‘Broken Melody Records’ in December 2013 the band have recently finished up recording their debut EP and while putting the finishing touches to it they still managed to find time to headline a show at the prestigious Sound City festival in Liverpool, England where their performance captivated a packed house and brought forth a stream of high praising reviews. The future looks extremely bright for White Male Actors and they are currently making plans to work with famed British producer Gavin Monaghan (Editors, Ryan Adams, Kings Of Leon, Robert Plant) in the coming months on some brand new tracks. Their debut EP ‘Ghosts’ will be released on October 20th 2014 through iTunes, amazon, bandcamp and other select outlets. Please check the band’s social outlets for more details.

“I’ve tried to walk away from music so many times. To be a musician is such a heart-breaking and beautiful undertaking. Every time I think I’ll give it up and lead a normal life, I start hearing the words and melodies of my next record already being written.” With a professional track record that includes national tours, brand endorsements, and prolific collaborations, Katrina Stone’s latest project The Happy Ones continues to elevate the pop tunesmith to a new creative level. “I’m at the point in my career where I can just have fun. I can write and produce whatever I want, take time to experiment,” says Stone. “This album is eclectic and surprising. It doesn’t really adhere to any specific genre. It was a lot of fun to put together.” The bouncy title track “The Happy Ones” features Stone’s signature vocal stylings while flaunting her pop production chops. “I played around with mixing more acoustic instruments with electronic ones,” says Stone. But not straying too far from her acoustic roots, the sweet folk-inspired tune “Ain’t No Rest” is brimming with tight harmonies, rootsy production, and powerful lyrics. Closing out the album with the dreamy “Fall In Love Again”, Stone has created an incredible collection of songs that are sure to appease her fans. “I do love releasing music, it keeps me growing as a writer and as an artist. My fans have gotten to see that growth with every album, every song.” Expressing herself with personal abandon is something Stone has always prided herself on when it comes to writing new songs. “I will always write music because it is my outlet. It’s not always fun, it’s not always incredibly inspired. Sometimes you have to battle with a song and work on it constantly,” exclaimed Stone. “But at the end of the day, it’s rewarding to hear that sweet sound you dreamed up in your head, that song that didn’t exist until you battled it into existence.” And that’s what you’ll find when you listen to Katrina Stone’s latest beautiful effort: struggle, passion, and her trademark feel-good sound for the rainy days or the summer haze.

Hers is a voice wrapped in intricate black lace; soulful as the first quiet Sunday after a broken heart and powerful as the words that finally bring healing. Smart and sassy, this high-spirited Houston, TX native has no issue speaking her mind with the kind of confidence that only comes from overcoming an arduous past. She describes her younger self as an ‘ugly duckling’; shy, pining for popularity, and battling body issues. But since we know that adversity makes an artist, Melany’s long, painful struggle, and eventual escape from her 250lb prison, has undeniably created a musician with a message – one of hope and encouragement for others facing the same heartbreakingly difficult situations.Drawing the best from her heroes & influences (the rawness of Etta James, the vocal acrobatics of Whitney Houston, the vivaciousness of Chaka Kahn, and the universal writing style of Corinne Bailey Rae), Melany developed her own brand of blue-eyed soul while earning a Performance Degree from Belmont University, even honoring Mariah by bringing back the “whistle tone” on her original material. Never one to sit back and take the easy route, Melany hitched her wagon to the wind once again in the Summer of 2012 and moved to The Big Apple, where she’s already garnered multiple performances at venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Within her first year in New York, her momentum flew her across America to the west coast and got her to the blind auditions and made her a Top 100 finalist on NBC’s Season 6 of the Voice. The ingenious Miss Watson is dedicated to building her career the old-fashioned way; by paying her dues a thousand times over and continuing to live a momentous life suitably reflective of timeless songs. We can all look forward to watching this stunningly beautiful woman become everything she’s ever dreamed of. The brightest stars have aligned, shining a spotlight down on the incredibly inspired music of Melany Watson.
